Why most diets fail (and what works instead)

You have probably already been on at least one diet that went great at first – and fizzled out after a few weeks. That is not a personal failing and not a question of discipline. It is almost always a design flaw of the diet itself.

The truth is unspectacular: to lose fat, you have to take in less energy than you use over a longer period. The real challenge is something else entirely: how do you manage to stick with it without your daily life, your mood and your social life falling completely by the wayside?

The design flaw

Too radical, too one-sided, too unrealistic

This is exactly why most diets fail:

  • They are too radical to keep up for longer than four weeks.
  • They ban entire food groups completely, which usually ends in cravings, a bad mood and relapse.
  • They don't take into account that you sometimes eat out, celebrate, travel or simply don't feel like cooking – in other words, normal life.
Our approach

What we do instead

In the intro consultation we look at what your daily life really looks like – not how it ideally should look. Then we build a nutrition strategy that fits exactly that daily life, combined with targeted strength training. The strength training is no coincidence here: it makes sure you keep as much muscle as possible while losing weight and end up not just “lighter” but also firmer and more capable. Muscle is also what keeps your basal metabolic rate up.

What matters to us: no food is categorically banned with us. We work with what you like to eat and adjust amounts and composition so that it works – not with rigid lists of forbidden foods that you will break at some point anyway.

Frequently asked questions about weight loss with a personal trainer

A moderate calorie deficit of 300 to 500 calories per day is considered healthy and sustainable. Larger deficits increase the risk of muscle loss and the yo-yo effect. At WD Space we calculate your exact deficit individually.
Without targeted strength training you lose muscle as well as fat in a calorie deficit. Regular strength training and enough protein signal to your body to preserve muscle – and that is exactly what your training plan with us is designed for.
In a calorie deficit, 1.6 to 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight are recommended to prevent muscle loss. We build these values into your individual nutrition strategy.
Most diets fail because they rely only on cutting calories, without training or a nutrition strategy that fits everyday life. Over 80 percent of all diets are unsuccessful in the long term. Personal training combines both factors and creates commitment through fixed appointments.

First visible changes usually appear after three to four weeks of consistent training, noticeable weight loss after six to eight weeks – depending on starting weight, training frequency and nutrition.
