Build endurance without torturing yourself every time

Many people automatically associate endurance training with exhaustion – long runs, a stitch in the side, the feeling of being about to collapse, and days of sore muscles afterwards. No wonder so many people avoid it, even though they know deep down it would do them good.

More than burning calories

What good endurance training does for your body

Among heart specialists, endurance training is regarded as one of the most important tools for heart health in the 21st century. It takes strain off the heart, regulates blood pressure and improves the blood and oxygen supply to your muscles. On top of that come stress relief through the release of feel-good hormones and a significantly reduced risk of chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular problems. Two to three hours of moderate training per week, spread over several sessions, are already enough for noticeable effects – provided volume and intensity match your starting level.

The most common mistake

Why many people train hard and still stagnate

And yet that is often exactly the mistake: too fast, too intense, too rarely. Endurance builds most reliably over many easy, almost unspectacular sessions – not over a few extreme sessions where you are completely at your limit. If you go to your limit on every run or bike ride, your body over time becomes more cautious rather than more capable. The result: stagnation, exhaustion, sometimes even setbacks – despite all the effort.

Why not on your own?

Your pace, your zones, your progress

We look at where your current starting level really is – not where you think it should be – and build up from there in a structured way. Sometimes easier, sometimes harder, but always dosed so that after the session you think “that went well, I could do more” and not “that was clearly too much”. That applies equally whether your goal is a first 5-kilometre run, more breath in everyday life or preparation for a half marathon.

A simple gauge for in between, without a heart rate monitor: if you could still talk in full sentences while running or cycling, you are at the right base pace. If talking becomes noticeably hard, you are going too fast for regular endurance training.

Frequently asked questions about endurance training with a personal trainer

Two to three hours of endurance training per week, spread over several 20 to 30-minute sessions, are enough for noticeable health effects. Depending on your goal and fitness level, we adjust volume and intensity individually.
Base endurance trains in the moderate, aerobic range and forms the foundation of your endurance performance. HIIT applies short, intense stimuli that kick-start the metabolism. The combination of both is the most effective – not one or the other.
Many people unknowingly train in a grey area, so-called zone 3 – intense enough to build up fatigue, but not intense enough for real performance adaptations. That costs a lot of energy for comparatively little training gain. Targeted control by heart rate zones avoids this trap.
An early sign is a sudden rise in resting heart rate of five to ten beats. Persistent tiredness or a lack of progress despite hard training can also be warning signs. A personal trainer monitors your recovery and adjusts your training accordingly.
For everyone who wants to improve their cardiovascular health, train more efficiently or prepare for a sporting goal such as a race – from beginners to ambitious advanced trainees. The training is tailored individually to your starting level.
First noticeable improvements usually appear after three to four weeks of regular training, measurable progress in endurance performance after six to eight weeks – depending on starting level and training frequency.
