Build muscle – the right way
Most people who come to us with the goal of “muscle building” have trained before – at a gym, with YouTube videos, maybe even with a training plan from the internet. And yet little has changed over months. Sound familiar? Then you are definitely not alone.
This is almost never down to a lack of willpower. It is because a few crucial things are missing – and those are exactly what we build into your training plan together.
The exercise has to hit where it should
You can do a hundred squats – but if your lower back does all the work because your technique is off, your legs still won't grow. Very few people notice this themselves, because you can hardly see yourself from the outside while training. A second pair of eyes that watches closely and corrects at the right moment is worth its weight in gold here – and it is the difference between “I've been training for years” and “I've been making progress for years”.
of muscle mass – that is what we lose on average per decade after the age of 50 without targeted strength training. Source: AOK
Your body can do more than you think
From our mid-thirties, without targeted strength training we lose a little muscle mass every year – mostly unnoticed, until everyday things like climbing stairs, carrying or getting up from a low seat become harder than before. The good news: with regular, properly dosed training this process can be halted and even reversed at any age – even if you only start at 50 or 60.
Progression and recovery in balance
The technical term is “progressive overload” – but it is actually quite simple: your body only builds new muscle if, over weeks and months, you demand a little more of it than before. Not every session brutal, but consistent. Most people either always train the same way (then eventually nothing happens – the famous plateau) or too erratically (then the injury comes, and you fall back again).
Muscles don't grow during training, but afterwards – in the rest phase, when your body can repair and build up what you stressed during training. Anyone who goes all out every day, sleeps too little or is chronically stressed sabotages exactly this process, no matter how hard they train in the gym.
What that means for us: in the intro consultation we look at where you currently stand, what your daily life allows and what your body can handle. Then we build a training plan together that grows with you over months – with exercises that are right from the start, because we are there for every repetition.
Frequently asked questions about muscle building with a personal trainer
How often should I train for muscle building?
For effective muscle building, two to three targeted strength training sessions per week per muscle group are enough, with sufficient recovery in between. Your training plan at WD Space is tailored individually to your availability and your level.
At what age can you still build muscle?
Muscle building is possible at any age – even after 60 or 70. Your muscles renew themselves throughout life as soon as they are challenged by a targeted training stimulus. What matters is appropriately managed loading, which we plan individually for you at WD Space.
Do women and men build muscle differently?
Different hormonal conditions influence muscle building and recovery in women and men. That does not mean different training principles, but an individually adapted plan – which is what you get with us.
Do I need a personal trainer, or is training alone at the gym enough?
Personal training significantly reduces the risk of injury and speeds up visible progress, especially for beginners with no training experience. You learn correct technique from the start instead of correcting mistakes only after months.
How long does it take to see first results from muscle building?
First visible changes in strength and posture usually appear after four to six weeks of consistent training, noticeable muscle growth after eight to twelve weeks – depending on training frequency, nutrition and individual factors.
